A unique motorcyling experience awaits you, so drop in and test ride a Royal Enfield today.
It's not exactly like either! It is very hard to compare a modern Bullet to any other motorcycle, precisely because it is an extremely unusual hybrid of old and new. If you ride a modern Hinckley Bonneville then you're in no doubt that you are riding a 'tribute' bike: an entirely modern motorcycle which has been styled to look like a traditional one. The Royal Enfield range aren't like that: they are a fusion on old and new - probably more like a Moto Guzzi or BMW Boxer in terms of feel.
t has an all-alloy lean-burn engine, electric start, 5-speed gearbox, left-foot shift, and a disc front brake. The engine proved very reliable on our 3000 mile test ride and needed no attention whatsoever. The 280mm, single-caliper disc brake suits the bike's performance and allows you to ride with more gusto than if you were relying on a drum, but it's not so powerful that you're in danger of nipping up the front end in the wet. The earlier drum brake needed setting up quite carefully, so the disc is especially useful if you don't want to spend more time fettling your bike than riding it.
Our bikes were fitted with the Highway Kit, which is useful if you ride long distances, or regularly carry a pillion, or if you're used to riding a machine of substantially greater capacity (a 500cc single can't be expected to pull like a 1200cc V-twin). The Highway Kit boosts the Electra's mid-range and gives it a spot of oomph for over-taking which came in very handy.
You can buy some versions of Bullets (but not the 500 lean-burn Electra) from bucket shops, and it's much the same as buying dodgy DVDs from a man at a market stall. The UK importer, Watsonian Squire, have put a lot of effort into developing the Electra and improving the overall build quality of Bullets. If you bypass the official importer then you benefit from none of this work, you have none of the warranties, and there is an argument that you jeopardise the future development of the marque.
ROYAL ENFIELD will unveil the Woodsman 500, the latest in a long line of Bullet motorcycles, at this year's NEC Bike Show.
Royal Enfield is really turning up the heat with their new UCE engined creations all set to make a mighty impact on leisure motorcycling and touring in India. Royal Enfield showcased all their current Indian offerings at the 2010 Indian Auto Expo.
While, the classic Cast Iron engine is finally being laid to rest due to the emissions strangling it, we feel a twinge of sadness to see the legendary, long stroke 346cc cast iron engine being discontinued. That said, nothing is permanent in this ever changing world, and Royal Enfield has outfitted the STD350 with the UCE engine. This, in a bid to keep the model alive while managing to meet the stringent emission norms that the Bharat Stage IV norms lay down for all automobiles in India.

Custom Choppers are not an unheard phenomenon if you are from an Occident country (or of you watch a lot of Discovery Turbo), but here in India they pretty much are a rarity especially when the only thing closer to a cruiser we have is a Royal Enfield. Its perhaps the macho image Bullets carry with them that they still sell like hot cakes and are priced higher than a lakh these days. Its amazing how the prices have gone up in a decade, i bought my Standard Bullet 350 for 56,000/- back in 2002. If i sell it now, i can easily get 45,000/- what a good investment of money! Still, the truth be told, RE should upgrade their bikes, at least technology wise, but lately they have been involved in developing a really terrible electronic ignition and have been messing up the best part of the Bullets niche… its design. With new modern mudguards and lot more additions of fancy sports bike meters and all, they have created some really poor bastard children of Bullets and cheap Japanese bikes.
One thing i relaly like about Vardenchi is the way they name their motorcycles, Vedic, Industrial, El Toro Del Diablo, Silver Smoke, Mechanica, Skeletor, Stealth, Dark Night… just a few examples and apparently getting one of these beauties of your own costs around 3-4 lakhs… not much as compared to the American Choppers.
When the parent company is inclined towards netherworlds (with the only redemption seen in the launch of Bullet 500 classic), the hope is rising in the shape of growing culture of custom chopper designers. A huge thanks has to be said to Robbie for posting about it in our forums here. from where i started digging and discovered this great company, which easily is the ace of this breed: Vardenchi owned by Akshai Varde. There is not much of information about Vardenchi and their Flash website really doesn’t have much of juice to be sucked upon with very low res photographs and no information whatsoever and the Blog is in ashes with a few dozen posts to thrive upon. I say to the gods of Motorcycling…
However whatever i have seen at other websites and whatever was offered by the demons at Google, it got me into a phase of loads of respect for these guys, for they no longer are mechanics, but artists. I could never have dreamed Bullets being turned into such brilliant choppers. Initially i wanted to do one article each on every single creation of Vardenchi, but amidst photographs of dimensions of 320 pixels, i couldn’t get even closer. So here is one single generic article about their custom Bullets. However i will post a few articles on their more famous bikes which are available in plenty on net.
